Facilities include four classrooms, two workshops, a library, kitchen,
dining hall, three boys' dormitories, and one for girls, plus seven staff
houses. There is a chapel for worship. We have electricity (supplied by
a generator) and a two-way radio for communication. Sanitation is good -
an 800 gallon reservoir water tank driven by electrical motor, supplies
the centre with drinking water. For transport, we have one aluminium canoe
with an outboard motor. There is also a tractor for farming and loading.
We offer residential courses to males and females of all denominations,
and have accommodation for 120 students. There are currently eight staff
members at the centre, who are paid a salary by the SDA church. The European
Union provides the centre with financial support for materials and enterprises.
We are a Full Member of SIARTC.
Afutara Adventist Vocational School
Malaita
Province
We are a residential centre, managed by the Malaita Mission
of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The Church developed the centre in
1974 from a former primary school (founded in 1964). We are proud of our
graduates who have a reputation for high performance. Our aim is to develop
the physical, mental, social and spiritual potential of young adults, whilst
preparing them for successful and meaningful employment. We try to encourage
self- sufficiency - growing our own root crops and fruit, baking bread and
buns, and raising money for the centre through various enterprises. We sell
vegetables at the market in Auki, and to surrounding communities. We also
manage a store, fuel depot and a building maintenance service (our students
have built staff houses at the local hospital during their mid-year break).
The centre's buildings are concrete or leaf.
