Ararat Pastoral Centre
Malaita Province

Our centre stands on a hill (the word Ararat means 'on a hill'), between the Atu'a River and the Wana River. Village life continues peacefully around us.
Our aim is to offer vocational training for drop-outs from the formal school system. Students at Ararat learn a variety of practical skills that will them earn a living. They are also expected to help sustain the centre by growing vegetables for sale at the market, and assisting in the running of our goods store. Sport is actively encouraged, and we have our own soccer team.
The centre buildings are of bush materials, with some metal reinforcement. We have two classrooms and two dormitories. Visitors traveling by vehicle (4x4 truck) will need 6 hours' travel time, by OBM it will take 2 hours per sea from Marau. The SSEC Co-ordinator helps with teaching materials. We also receive support from the European Union.
