Luesalo
Rural Training Centre
Temotu
Province
Established in the 1970s as a church rural training centre
for the Temotu region, Luesalo was moved to the present site in 1980, when
the Temotu region became a Diocese of its own,
We can accommodate 120 student (male and female students, from all denominations)
who have completed. We have four staff members, who aim to help train village
communities and develop home-based leadership skills for the village youth.
Apart from our vocational programme, our students practise music and drama,
traditional dancing, and sports (we enjoy soccer, netball, and athletics,
in which Luesalo's students excel!) We also operate a piggery, and grow
just enough crops to sustain the centre.
Our buildings are pre-fabricated and local-style leaf buildings. There are three classrooms, one workshop, a library, kitchen, dining hall, three dormitories, and five staff houses. There is a chapel for worship. We have a generator to power lights and ceiling fans. We have gravity fed water system (in need of repair). The centre has 1 fibreglass canoe with an outboard motor. Some buildings, such as the kitchen and dining hall, are in desperate need of repair - one classroom needs to be altered (the room needs to be larger and the ceiling raised), one dormitory has incomplete flooring, and the sanitation system requires maintenance. Luesalo is a Full Member of SIARTC.
