Mana'abu Village-based Centre
Malaita Province

We welcome women, young people and school drop-outs, or future community and church leaders. Our aim is to improve the overall living standards of rural communities by teaching them to be self-reliant. That's why we stress and the importance of cooperation, training, involvement, demonstration, and participation.
Apart from our vocational programme, we grow our ow crops (kumara, tara, yam etc). Fishing is our main source of income. We also have a piggery and poultry farm. Recreation includes singing and panpipe music and dance, sports and other social activities.
The community helped to build the centre in 1988, amd training programmes began under the authority of the Provincial Government. We have one classroom, staff house and kitchen. The centre has a two-way radio for communication. Our water supply is in need of repair. Products from all our enterprises are sold to help us buy teaching materials. We also raise money through bazaars. Mana'abu is an Associate Member of SIARTC.
