Nawote
Rural Training Centre
Makira
Province
Vocational subjects were introduced in 1992, and the programme
was broadened to include cultural training for young people. Our aim is
to provide holistic teaching in Bible knowledge and vocational skills training,
to help school drop-outs become useful members of their society.
We welcome male and female students over 20 years old, who are fully committed
Christians from any denomination, and willing to submit to SSEC regulations.
We have 10 staff members, and can accommodate a maximum of 50 students.
Apart from our vocational programme, we also offer integrated cattle farming,
poultry production, pig farming and pineapple farming. We offer a variety
of sports activities. Students also learn how to manufacture furniture and
produce vegetables, fruit, honey, cocoa beans and roasted peanuts, which
are sold to the community. This raises around a thousand dollars a month
to help sustain the centre.
The site is flat and fertile. All but one of the buildings are of local
materials. We do not have a water system - we use water from a stream, and
would like to install a water tank and piped water supply. There is no generator
or transport. We plan to have a hydro-powered electricity supply, once we
can acquire assistance.
