The idea for the College was first mooted by the EU project, St. Dominic’s and SIARTC in early 200. The site and buildings was designed by Brother Tony Burrows, and cleared by the staff and students of St. Dominic’s. Excellent and rapid progress on construction was made possible only by the hard work and dedicated input of EU project staff and St. Dominic’s staff and students, and two very able contractors, ex St Dominic’s students, Augustine Samasia and Julian Pujibatu. Augustine, 28 years of Dala, Malaita Province, graduated from St Dominic’s in 1994 after which he became an instructor at the same centre, before doing community and church construction in Malaita. Julian, 24 years, from Sirovanga, Choiseul Province, graduated also from St Dominic’s in 1997, and had since been helping his community.
